Men’s Tennis Wins Pac-12 Championship


BERKELEY, Calif. – Raising the Pac-12 trophy, No. 20 Stanford men’s tennis clinched its share of the Pac-12 Championship with a 4-1 win over No. 59 California on Saturday at Hellman Tennis Complex. The Cardinal improves to 15-5 this season and finishes with a 7-1 mark in conference play.

The Pac-12 title is the 19th for the Cardinal in program history and the first for Stanford since 2021, when it won the outright championship. Stanford shares the 2024 title with Arizona.

The Cardinal took the early lead in doubles, posting wins on courts two and three. Samir Banerjee and Nishesh Basavareddy picked up a 6-1 win on court two, while Aryan Chaudhary and Harsh Hemang Parikh clinched the advantage on court three, 6-4.

Cal responded to tie the match, 1-1, with a win on court two, but, the draw was short-lived as Basavareddy responded with a 6-4, 6-4 win on court one to give Stanford a 2-1 edge. Kyle Kang extended the advantage to 3-1 with a straight sets win on court four, 7-5, 7-5.

Needing one final point to clinch the championship, Nico Godsick picked up a three-set thriller on court six, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 to give the Cardinal the win.

Stanford earned the top seed at the Pac-12 Tournament in Ojai, California, with action starting on Wednesday, April 24.
