LAST TIME OUT

The Nittany Lions split a doubleheader on Sunday, falling to conference opponent Illinois 4-0, before sweeping Mount St. Mary’s 7-0.

Doubles partners Malik Bhatnagar and Charl Morgan took down the No. 50 ranked duo in the nation in Illinois’ Hunter Heck and Lucas Horve, 6-2. Unfortunately, it was not enough to come away with the point.

Against Mount St. Mary’s, Penn State swept every court in singles. Playing at No. 1 for the first time this season, Sam Bossem downed the Mount’s Elliot Stevens 6-0, 6-1.

SCOUTING THE BOILERMAKERS

Purdue enters into Friday’s matchup with an 8-9 record. The Boilermakers swept Big Ten opponent Indiana on Saturday, coming away with the 4-0 win. It was their first conference match of the season.

This contest will mark the 20th time these two programs will face off on the court. The Nittany Lions hold a 14-5 record and a four-match winning streak. Most recently, Penn State bested the Boilermakers in a 5-2 victory in West Lafayette, Ind. in 2021. Despite losing the doubles point, the Nittany Lions battled back to win on every single court except one. Miko Eala defeated Purdue’s Michal Wozniak in a 6-2, 7-6 (6) match to clinch the win for the Nittany Lions.

PREVIEWING THE HOOSIERS

Indiana will face the #2 team in the country in Ohio State, before hosting the Nittany Lions on Sunday. The Hoosiers have a 5-9 record this season and are coming off a 4-0 loss to the Purdue Boilermakers. It was their first conference match of the season.

Historically, Indiana is 13-5 against Penn State. In 2021, they defeated the Nittany Lions 4-1 in Bloomington. Eala grabbed Penn State’s only point of the match in a 6-2, 6-1 match over Carson Haskins, while also registering his eighth conference singles win of the season.
