Men’s Tennis Takes Down Wisconsin

Northwestern

MADISON, Wis. – Fighting Illini men’s tennis defeated Wisconsin, 4-1, Sunday afternoon at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium.

The Illini go to 12-8 on the year and 3-3 in conference play while the Badgers fall to 1-17 overall and 0-5 in Big Ten action.

“We are learning a lot through this road trip,” head coach Brad Dancer said. “It’s about solving the puzzle. You gotta pay attention. Alex Petrov did a great job today of making adjustments. We can be better but anytime you win on the road the guys have to show toughness.”

Illinois started doubles with a 6-2 win from Hunter Heck and Lucas Horve over Michael Minasyan and Gabriel Huber.

Mathis Debru and Kenta Miyoshi clinched the doubles point when they beat Tomas Zlatohlavek and Jason Hildebrandt, 6-1.

After starting singles with a Debru loss to make the match 1-1, No. 83-ranked Miyoshi put the Illini back in front with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Matthew Fullerton.

Freshman Jeremy Zhang continued the momentum with a 7-6 (5) 7-6 (2) win over Hildebrandt. William Mroz clinched the match when he beat Zlatohlavek 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 in the No. 4 spot.
