COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 2023 men’s tennis team moved to 3-0 on the season with a big 4-3 win over Tulsa today in the ITA Kick-Off.
Oregon avenged a tough 4-3 defeat to the Golden Hurricanes last season with the momentum-building win today in Columbus. The Ducks No. 11 ranked doubles team secured the doubles point with a tough 7-6 (7-5) win over Pearson/Di Marco after Oregon’s pair of Ivailo Keremedchiev and Ray Lo won their match 6-3 against Siddall/Gale.
Jesper Klov-Nilsson continues to be a key piece of the puzzle in singles spot No. 4 for the Ducks, as he quickly got the second point of the day with a 6-2, 6-3 sweep over Adham Gaber. Vlad Breazu dropped a point to Zakharov to leave things at 2-1. Keremedchiev swung the match back in favor of Oregon after a 6-4, 6-4 win on court three.
Tulsa rebounded with wins on courts one and six to leave things knotted at three-all. Vandecasteele’s match would prove to be the most competitive point, and the deciding one for the match. A 7-6 (7-2) win in the first set was a sign of things to come in the second. Vandecasteele trailed early in the second but bounced back to force the tiebreaker at six-all. He carried his momentum into the tiebreak to seal the win with a 7-4 result.
