Men’s Tennis Set for Matchups with Auburn and Alabama


GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida Gators Men’s Tennis is set for their second-straight weekend of SEC road matches, first facing the Auburn Tigers on Friday before heading to Tuscaloosa to face the Alabama Crimson Tide on Sunday.
 
Florida enters the weekend with a 2-2 record, good for sixth in the conference. The Gators were named the No. 25 team in the nation on Tuesday, which makes them the seventh-ranked squad in the SEC per ITA’s weekly rankings.
 
Last Time Out
Florida picked up two crucial wins this past Tuesday over Tennessee State University, making the Gators 8-6 in the dual season. The Gators won every singles and doubles point played, winning both dual matches despite forfeitures of the court six singles point by the Gators in both matches.
 
The Opponents
No. 35 Auburn enters the Friday match with Florida carrying a 2-1 record in conference play. The Tigers are coming off of a tight 4-3 win over Georgia on Sunday in Athens. Florida holds a massive 50-15 advantage over Auburn in the all-time series between the two programs. The Gators have won the previous 11 matches against Auburn, dating back to their 4-0 victory over the Tigers in Gainesville on March 21st, 2014.
 
No. 24 Alabama currently holds a 1-2 record in conference play. Before Sunday’s match with Florida, the Crimson Tide will face South Carolina in Tuscaloosa on Friday. The Gators are 45-21 against Alabama all-time, with Alabama taking the most recent match 4-3 on March 12th, 2023 in Gainesville. Florida last defeated Alabama 5-2 on April 8th, 2022 in Tuscaloosa.
