Men’s Tennis Rises to No. 27 Ranking After Winning Weekend

The Gators see two players tabbed to ITA’s singles rankings, as well as one doubles pairing.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida Gators Men’s Tennis saw a boost to the No. 27 spot in this week’s ITA team rankings, after an SEC opening weekend that saw the Orange and Blue upset two top-25 opponents.

Florida’s 4-0 win over Texas A&M was the first ranked win of the 2024 season, and the first of Head Coach Adam Steinberg‘s career with the Gators. The win over the No. 12 Aggies was the highest ranked win for Florida since they defeated No. 10 Baylor on February 19, 2023 at the ITA National Indoor Championships.

Just two days later, Florida again dominated a top-25 opponent in Louisiana State, winning all four singles matches played to claim a 4-1 win. The weekend marked Florida’s first back-to-back top-25 wins since the Gators defeated No. 5 Tennessee and No. 10 Kentucky in the Semifinals and Finals of the 2022 SEC Tournament.

Jeremy Jin (97) and Tanapatt Nirundorn (99) were tabbed to this week’s singles rankings. Jin and Nirundorn claimed the two winning fourth points of this past weekend, with Jin defeating then-No. 69 Raphael Perot to finish Florida’s sweep of Texas A&M, and Nirundorn defeating Alessio Vasquez on court four to claim victory over the Tigers.

Florida also boasts one doubles duo on ITA’s weekly list, with Nirundorn and Adhithya Ganesan slotting in at No. 39 in the nation. The tandem is 8-1 in official dual match play, including a win over current No. 6 Spizzirri/Harper of Texas during the Gators’ win of the doubles point in their match against the Longhorns last month.

The Gators have another chance to make waves in the rankings this weekend, as they hit the road to face the No. 5 Kentucky Wildcats in Lexington, and then the No. 9 Tennessee Volunteers in Knoxville.
