Men's Tennis Grabs No. 16 Seed, Will Host NCAA Action


CHAPEL HILL, N.C.—North Carolina is the No. 16 overall seed in the 64-team field of the 2023 NCAA men’s tennis tournament and will host first- and second-round action this weekend at the Chewning Tennis Center, the NCAA announced on Monday evening.

The Tar Heels have earned NCAA Tournament bids 27 times under the tutelage of 30th-year head coach Sam Paul. Carolina will be hosting NCAA Tournament matches for the ninth consecutive year and 10th time in the last 11 Tournaments.

UNC is 17-8 overall this season and went 9-3 in the Atlantic Coast Conference regular season. Carolina is making its 29th NCAA Tournament appearance.

The Tar Heels will host Drake in the first round and will host a first-round match between Utah and Old Dominion. The winners then will meet for the right to advance to the Round of 16.

Whoever wins two matches this weekend in Chapel Hill will advance to play the winner of the group that includes No. 1 seed Texas, Texas A&M Corpus-Christi, UTSA and Pepperdine the following weekend.
