Men’s Tennis Falls at Crosstown Rival USC

LOS ANGELES – The UCLA men’s tennis team dropped its regular-season road finale Wednesday evening, falling to No. 11 USC by a 4-0 score in Pac-12 action at David X. Marks Tennis Stadium.

Gianluca Ballotta and Azuma Visaya picked up first sets and Timothy Li later forced a third in singles play for the Bruins (12-8, 3-4 Pac-12), but their matches were ultimately left unfinished. Stefan Dostanic clinched the overall result. Peter Makk and Learner Tien were also victorious on the singles courts for the Trojans (15-7, 5-2).

Tien and Bradley Frye registered a 6-3 win against No. 60 Li and Giacomo Revelli on the top court to start doubles play. UCLA’s Jeffrey Fradkin and Aadarsh Tripathi led 4-2 on Court 3, but their match with Makk and Wojtek Marek was abandoned when the Trojans clinched the first point on Court 2. Dostanic and Ryan Colby defeated Ballotta and Patrick Zahraj by a 6-2 score to decide matters.

Ballotta and Azuma Visaya nabbed first sets for the Bruins. Ballotta led No. 120 Frye 7-5, 4-1 on Court 5 when the decision was sealed. Li answered Lodewijk Westrate on Court 6, putting up a 6-4 second set after losing the first.

Tien downed Revelli 6-2, 6-4 on Court 2, pushing USC’s lead to 2-0. No. 44 Makk then got the better of Tripathi in a 6-1, 6-4 result on Court 3. Finally, No. 31 Dostanic contributed the deciding victory on Court 1, where he topped Zahraj 6-3, 6-2.
