UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- The Penn State Men’s Tennis team finished their Sunday doubleheader 1-1 against Georgetown and Mount St. Mary’s. The Nittany Lions fell to Georgetown, 7-0, and defeated Mount St. Mary’s, 4-2.
GEORGETOWN
Doubles
At No. 1, Ari Cotoulas and Nolan Ranger partnered together. They played a tight match, winning 7-6(5) against Kieran Foster and Adhvyte Sharma.
Playing in at No. 2, Stefan Simeunovic and Alexander Sterin paired up. The duo fell 7-5 to Jake Fellows and Aruther O’Sullivan.
Singles
Simeunovic took the No. 1 spot, but dropped his match 6-1, 6-1 to Fellows. At No. 2, Cotoulas fell 6-1, 6-1 to O’Sullivan.
Sterin stepped up to No. 4, facing Sharma, but ultimately fell to him in a 6-4, 6-2 match. Ranger played a tough match at No. 3, but fell to his opponent, Foster, 7-6(2), 6-2. Nadikude played in at No. 5, dropping his match 6-0, 6-4 to Sahil Morey.
MOUNT ST. MARY’S
Doubles
At No. 2, Stefan Seimeunovic and Alex Sterin won in a 6-3 match against Filippos Zachiotis and Jarrett Karnibad.
Ari Cotoulas and Nolan Ranger played at the No. 1 spot, facing Elliot Stevens and Victor Mignot. The Nittany Lions dropped their match 6-2.
Singles
Ranger played a quick match at No. 2, defeating Aaron Thompson 6-0, 6-0.
Sterin kept strong at No. 4, battling back and forth in the first set with his opponent, Luke Papayoanou. Sterin won the match 6-4, 6-0.
Simeunovic played at No. 1, capturing a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Zachiotis.
At No.3, Cotoulas battled strong in a 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 win over Akarsh Gaonkar.
Nadikude gave Karnibad a fight, bringing the first set to a tiebreak. Nadikude was down 7-6(5), 2-0 when the match was deemed unfinished.
UP NEXT
The Nittany Lions will take the road for their first away matches of the season. The squad will face St. John’s in Queens, N.Y. on Saturday at 1 p.m. They will close out the weekend in New York, N.Y. against Columbia on Sunday at 1 p.m.
