Men’s Tennis Competes on Day 2 of Dar Walters Classic


BOISE, Idaho – The University of Utah’s men’s tennis team wrapped up the second day of play at the Dar Walters Classic this afternoon. The team finished with both pairs in the consolation draw.

 

Utah’s Rian Ta and Geremia Rossi competed against Oregon’s Luke Vandecasteele and August Gustafson, coming out of the competition with a 2-1 loss. The duo dropped the doubles match 6-4 and looked for victories in the singles matches. Ta defeated Vandecasteele 7-6(2), 6-2. However, Gustafson took the upper hand against Rossi, 6-4, 6-2, granting Oregon the victory in the matchup.

 

Dylan Applegate and Charlie Spina faced Francisco Gay and Alex Asenov from Idaho and also finished in a loss. The Ute duo battled it out in doubles but lost the match 6-2. Applegate also dropped his match 6-4, 6-2. Spina won his match 6-3, 7-5.

 

The last day of action will begin tomorrow, Sunday, Oct. 2, at 9 a.m. MT. Applegate and Spina will compete in the consolation draw against Erik Salvrik and Steven Paz from Eastern Washington.

 

Utah will also be in action on day three of the Utah Invite in Salt Lake City. Utah will be in action at 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
