CARY, N.C. — Clemon junior Cristina Mayorova lost her match to South Carolina’s Ayana Akli on Tuesday, 3-6, 2-6. Mayorova won her opening match of the tournament on Sunday to advance to the second round, and entered the tournament the No. 77 ranked singles player before falling to No. 42 Akli.

“It was a tough day for Cristina, we are playing the best players in the country this week and unfortunately today was not her day,” said Assistant Coach Amy Sargeant. “Akli played a clean and very disciplined match, which made it difficult for Cristina to find her groove. However, there is always opportunity for growth, & improvement. She is one of our hardest workers, who’s always looking to improve and sharpen her game. We look forward to getting back and preparing for regionals.”

Mayorova earned an impressive victory on Monday in straight set style. The Tigers will be in action on October 13 at ITA Regionals in Winston Salem, N.C.
