Loris Pourroy Ready for NCAA Singles Championship

CHAMPAIGN, Illinois – Loris Pourroy, the 51st-ranked singles player in the country, will open the NCAA Men’s Tennis Singles Championship on Monday at 11:30 a.m. at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex in Champaign, Illinois.

“Loris has had a great year with an outstanding record,” head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. “He’s been a great player this spring, and we’re going to go up to the individual championships and see what he can do.”

Pourroy will face 11th-ranked Hamish Stewart from the University of Georgia in the first round. The two just competed in the second round of the team NCAA Tournament earlier this month which Stewart won.

For Florida State in the 2022 NCAA Tournament, Pourroy clinched the first-round match with a win over No. 59 Georgia State on court one. Previously this season, Pourroy clinched the ACC Tournament first-round match with a win over 57th-ranked Axel Nefve from No. 35 Notre Dame.

“You’re going to have to beat someone in the top 16,” Hultquist stated. “He’s shown the ability to do that in some of his wins this year, and I think he needs to take his opportunities as they come and really go for it to be able to do that.”

Earlier this spring, Pourroy was named ACC Player of the Week in back-to-back weeks. He has been ranked in the ITA Singles rankings since February 23, reaching as high as No. 44. Pourroy led the Seminoles in singles wins this season with 15, including six wins over ranked singles opponents.

“I think he’s gotten more aggressive and is serving better,” Hultquist shared. “He moves well and emotionally handles himself really well on the court, and I think those are the areas he has improved.”

This will be Pourroy’s first individual appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The bracket for the NCAA Men’s Tennis Singles Championship can be found here.
