Lady Vols Wrap Events, Continue Packed Stretch of Events

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – In the heart of its fall competition season, the Tennessee women’s tennis team wrapped up a pair of tournaments over the weekend, the ITA All-American Championship and the H-E-B Invite, while a fresh group of Lady Vols travel to the ITF W25 Florence, which begins qualifying play Monday.

“Fall tennis is all about two things; individual results and coaches learning as much as possible about our players prior to the spring,” head coach Alison Ojeda said. “We learned a lot about our girls this week at All-Americans and the H-E-B Invite in Waco. We will certainly learn even more as a few players head to Florence, South Carolina to compete in a pro event this week.”

At the ITA All-American Championship in Cary, North Carolina, Rebeka Mertena made it to the quarterfinals of the singles main draw. She picked up two ranked victories, defeating #42 Ayana Akli (South Carolina) before earning her first career top-10 win over #8 Georgia Drummy. In a battle with Anika Yarlagadda from North Carolina in the quarterfinals, the fifth-year senior fell in a three-set bout, 2-6, 7-5, 3-6.

Down in Waco, Texas at the H-E-B Invite, Elza Tomase and Lauren Anzalotta let off the tournament with a 7-6(0) doubles victory over Liubov Kostenko/Brooke Thompson from Baylor. Anzalotta added another singles victory during the weekend, dominating Susanna Brass from Texas 6-0, 6-0.

“I had time on the flight back to Knoxville to think through the specifics of what we need to work on this week, and I am very excited to get to work,” Ojeda finished saying.

As the two events came to a close, another group of Lady Vols is on the road heading to Florence, South Carolina to play in the ITF W25 Florence. The trio includes Daria Kuczer, Eleonora Molinaro and Catherine Aulia.
