Kovacevic Lands in the top-100 of the ATP Rankings

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Illinois men’s tennis alumnus Aleksandar Kovacevic has broken the top-100 in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings for the first time in his career.

The No. 85 ranking comes from winning four ATP Challengers and surviving a five-setter against Alejandro Tabilo in the opening round of the Australian Open.

Kovacevic’s most recent win was a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 thriller against Gilbert Klier Junior in Temuco, Chile. He also picked up a 7-6(4), 7-6(5) sweep over Nuno Borges in the $130,000 ATP Challenger in Shenzhen, China.

The 25-year-old started 2023 winning the $80,000 ATP Challenger in Cleveland, Ohio, where he defeated Yibing Wu, 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (2). His second win came last February, when he won the $80,000 ATP Challenger in Waco, Texas, taking down Alexandre Müller, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.
