TULSA, Okla. – A pair of Tennessee men’s tennis representatives are in action this week as Alex Kotzen and Shunsuke Mitsui are set to compete in the singles main draw at the ITA Men’s All-American Championships, running from Sept. 25 through Sept. 29.
By earning a main draw bid before the event, both individuals did not have to participate in the prequalifying or qualifying rounds of singles, which ran from Sept. 21 through Sept. 24.
The pair will begin competition on Wednesday, Sept. 25, as Kotzen is set to go up against Lui Maxted from TCU and Mitsui is matched against Matthew Forbes from Michigan State. Both matches will begin at 9:00 a.m. E.T.
In total, 10 individuals will qualify for the NCAA Singles Championships in November through the ITA All-American Championships. This comes from eight main draw quarterfinalists and two feed-in consolation finalists.
Tennessee is one of 10 schools in the country to have two or more players automatically selected for a singles main draw bid at the ITA All-American Championships.
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association and Cracked Racquets will provide a CrossCourt Cast during the main draw of the 2024 ITA Men’s and Women’s All-American Championships. Coverage is set to begin on Sept. 25 and run through Sept. 29 when the All-American Champions will be crowned. All of the action will be streamed through the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s YouTube page.
MITSUI CHASING 100 WINS
Coming into the ITA All-American Championships, Shunsuke Mitsui sits at 95 singles wins for his career and is inching closer to the 100-win mark. The senior looks to be the third Vol in the past two seasons to reach 100 singles victories, as Angel Diaz and Johannus Monday accomplished the feat last year.
KOTZEN ON THE BIG STAGE
Alex Kotzen will be making his long-awaited Vol debut this week in Tulsa. Coming into the season, Kotzen was tabbed as the 34th overall singles player in the ITA National Preseason Rankings.
UP NEXT
Tennessee will return to action in October, as various UT representatives are set to compete at the ITA Regionals, which runs from Oct. 10-14 in West Lafayette, Ind.
