Kevin Anderson, a former two-time Grand Slam singles finalist, will return to pro tennis this summer.

The 37-year-old South African recently accepted a singles wildcard into the upcoming Infosys Hall of Fame Open in Newport, Rhode Island later this month.

Anderson won the Newport ATP 250 event in 2021 for the last of his seven career ATP singles titles.

‘I’m thrilled to make my return to the Tour in Newport,” Anderson said to ATP.com. “Winning Newport in 2021 was a special moment for me. I couldn’t think of a better place to make my comeback, and I’m excited to hit the grass once again.”

Anderson announced his retirement last May after last competing in the 2022 Miami Open. Anderson, who reached a career high ranking of World No. 5, also reached two major singles finals – Wimbledon in 2018 and the US Open in 2017.

Anderson, speaking to ATP.com, said initially that he had not planned to return to the tour. But after feeling good about his tennis over the last few months, he decided to give the tour another go.

“My body felt much better and what I was doing with the tennis ball was really exciting to me and made me want to challenge myself again,” Anderson said. “I didn’t know if I’d have that opportunity but fortunately Newport has given me one, so I wanted to go out there and play again.”
