Jonas Ziverts Named Pac-12 Scholar Athlete of the Year

TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona’s Jonas Ziverts was awarded 2023 Pac-12 Scholar Athlete of the Year for his outstanding achievements on the courts and inside the classroom. The fifth-year captain and two-time member of the Pac-12 Spring Academic Honor Roll is the second Wildcat to receive the award this year, alongside Delaney Schnell of Arizona’s Swim and Dive.

Hailing from Solna, Sweden, Ziverts studies Economics at the prestigious Eller College of Management and was a catalyst in the tennis program’s success throughout the last four years. Most recently, the Wildcat helped lead the team to a back-to-back Pac-12 regular season title for the first time ever and was a key player in historic victories over Texas in 2022 and Baylor in 2023. He is a 3-time Pac-12 Player of the Week and a 2-time qualifier for the NCAA Individual Championship Tournament. Ziverts was the first Wildcat to represent Arizona in the tournament since Naoki Takeda qualified in 2015.

In his debut season at Arizona, Ziverts was named the 2019 ITA Southwest Rookie of the Year and to the All-Pac-12 Second Team after extraordinary performances all year long including the Wildcats first championship at the Blue Gray Tennis Classic. After helping the team garner their first Sweet Sixteen appearance at the 2021 tournament, Ziverts repeated his All-Pac-12 Second Team recognition and was awarded his first ITA Scholar Athlete the same year. It was only up from here for Ziverts who found himself part of Arizona’s 2022 ITA All-Academic Team, named an ITA Scholar Athlete once again and secured a spot on the All-Pac-12 First Team.

The Wildcat, who has a career high ITA national rank of 19, racked up even more accolades in his final fall season. Ziverts was part of Arizona’s doubles tandem that advanced to the 2022 quarterfinals at the Battle in the Bay Tournament and was the runner-up in the singles competition; it was the furthest Arizona has ever reached at the tournament in both singles and doubles. After his stellar performance at the San Francisco tournament, Ziverts was selected as a wildcard for the 2022 Tiburon Pro Challenger.

#14 Arizona Men’s Tennis [2] begins their run at the Pac-12 Championships in Ojai, Calif. this afternoon against #43 Washington [7] at 3 p.m. MT.
