Johns Tabbed ACC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week

DURHAM – Duke redshirt senior Garrett Johns has been selected the ACC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week following his impressive performance last weekend.

Johns clinched both matches for No. 15 Duke against Yale and No. 11 Kentucky in the Blue Devils’ undefeated weekend. The Atlanta native helped secure Duke’s eventual 6-1 win over Yale by earning a straight set, ranked win over No. 73 Theo Dean on Friday. He followed that up with another straight set win over Joshua Lapadat on Sunday to clinch Duke’s first win over Kentucky since 2020. In addition, Johns teamed up with Pedro Rodenas to go 2-0 in doubles action last weekend.

The Atlanta, Ga., native currently sits with a 5-1 dual singles record, including a 2-1 mark over ranked opponents, and is riding a three-match winning streak. With Rodenas, the pair hold a 5-2 dual doubles ledger with a 2-0 mark on court two.

The Blue Devils head to New York City for the National Team Indoor Championships, which run Friday through Monday. The event is hosted by Columbia University and USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. Additional details such as Duke’s opponents and timing of matches have yet to be determined.
