Jin Awarded Wild Card Bid to Australian Open Qualifiers


Jin is joined by Florida Gator alumni Oliver Crawford (UF 2017-2020) and Abdullah Shelbayh (UF 2022) in the qualifying events. Ben Shelton (UF 2021-2022) has already qualified for the tournament’s main draw.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida Gators men’s tennis star freshman Jeremy Jin has been awarded a wild card to qualifiers for the 2024 Australian Open. The qualifying action kicks off at Melbourne Park on Monday, January 8 at 10 AM (Sunday, January 7, 6 PM EST).
 
Jin, a native of Sydney, Australia, is one of Australia’s brightest young talents. He collected his first professional title in October of 2023 during his first semester on campus, bringing home the win at the International Tennis Federation (ITF) M15 Tallahassee event.
 
Before reaching Florida’s campus, Jin received a wild card bid to the 2023 Australian Open qualifiers.
 
Jin is joined by Florida Gator alumni Oliver Crawford (UF 2017-2020) and Abdullah Shelbayh (UF 2022) in the qualifying events. Crawford was a three-time ITA All-American while with the Gators, and Shelbayh was a part of the Gators’ 2022 SEC Championship-winning squad. Gator great Ben Shelton, the 2022 NCAA singles champion, has already qualified for the tournament’s main draw.
 
As Jin heads for Melbourne, the rest of Florida Gators Men’s Tennis prepares to open the spring season at the Fighting Illini Invite, beginning Friday, January 12 in Delray Beach, Fla.
