Jessica Pegula defeated Martina Trevisan 6-4, 6-2 on Sunday to give the United States a 1-0 lead over Italy in the United Cup final.
The American broke her opponent’s serve six times to triumph after one hour and 29 minutes. Frances Tiafoe will try to extend his country’s lead in the No. 2 men’s singles match when he faces Lorenzo Musetti.
