Ryder Jackson next plays in consolation singles Thursday at fall nationals.
SAN DIEGO – Cal men’s tennis junior Ryder Jackson fell to Wichita State’s Kristof Minarik in his singles opener of the ITA National Fall Championships on Wednesday at the Barnes Tennis Center.
In the round of 32, the Golden Bear lost to the Shocker, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5. Jackson moves on to the consolation draw and plays Harvard’s 39th-ranked Harris Walker on Thursday at a time TBA.
The fall championships end on Sunday.
Also on Wednesday, Cal’s Yuta Kikuchi began play in the Dick Savitt Open, a 15K professional tournament in Ithaca, New York. In the first round of the singles main draw, Kikuchi defeated AJ Catanzariti, 7-6(2), 6-2. Kikuchi also teamed with first-year Bear Siddhant Banthia to beat Alexander Kotzen and Ishaan Ravichander 7-6(5), 4-6, 10-7, in the first round of main draw doubles.
On Thursday, the two Bears face Robin Cantry and Fons Van Sambeek in the doubles quarterfinals and Kikuchi takes on top-seeded Sekou Bangoura in the singles second round at times TBA.
The Dick Savitt Open concludes Sunday.
