ITA Midwest Regionals Up Next – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – This week, members of the Ohio State women’s tennis team are in Ann Arbor, Mich., for the ITA Midwest Regional Championship, which runs Thursday through Tuesday in the Varsity Tennis Center. Admission is free. The singles and doubles winners will receive automatic berths into the ITA National Fall Championships.

 Buckeye at Regionals

  • Ohio State was the host of the 2021 ITA Midwest Regional. Irina Cantos Siemers and Sydni Ratliff won the doubles title and Cantos Siemers reached the singles final.
  • The regional title won by Cantos Siemers and Ratliff was the second in program history, with the first champions the duo of Anna Sanford and Miho Kowase in 2016. Ohio State has not had a regional singles champion.
  • The Buckeyes slated to play in the 64-player qualifying draw are Danielle Willson, Kathleen Jones and Madeline Atway. Atway is one of the first matches, starting at 8 a.m. Thursday. Willson and Jones will be third on (not before 10 a.m.). Each player with two wins in qualifying will advance to the main draw.
  • Buckeyes set for the singles main draw are Isabelle Boulais, Ratliff, Cantos Siemers, Lucia Marzal, Kolie Allen and Shelly Bereznyak. Dani Schoenly and Akanksha Bhan will compete in doubles only.
  • From the ITA preseason rankings, Cantos Siemers is the highest ranked player competing this week at No. 10. No. 37 Boulais, No. 51 Ratliff and No. 87 Bhan are the other ranked Buckeyes in singles. In doubles, Cantos Siemers and Ratliff are No. 24 as a duo, with Boulais and Allen No. 32.
