Irish Sweep Xavier to Conclude Weekend – Notre Dame Fighting Irish – Official Athletics Website

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame men’s tennis team wrapped up a busy weekend with a 4-0 sweep over Big East opponent Xavier Sunday evening. In a very rare occurrence, all three doubles matches finished at the exact same time as each of the three pairs clinched their respective courts on the same point. The team of Evan Lee and Yu Zhang played in the top spot in the lineup and won 6-2. Sebastian Dominko and Jayanth Devaiah lined up for the second time this season as a team, this time at #2 doubles, and won their court 6-3. Jean-Marc Malkowski and Brian Bilsey teamed up at #3 and secured a 6-2 win of their own.

In singles, the east side of the building would carry the day as all three matches there would finish to secure the win. Dominko concluded his match first 6-2, 6-3 at #1 position for his 10th singles win of the season. Kyran Magimay, playing #5, was next off the court with a 6-0, 6-4 win setting up Jamie Corsillo for the clinching point at #3 by a 6-2, 6-1 score. The remaining three matches would be abandoned with the Irish having won all first sets.

Earlier in the day, #3 Wake Forest proved too much for the Irish. A competitive doubles point would be close the whole way on all three courts. Dominko and Malkowski fell to the #1 ranked doubles team in the country by a single break in the set 6-3. In singles, the Demon Deacons would take three matches at #5, #6 and #2. The remaining matches would not finish but Dominko was in a third set, Corsillo was up a set and Thompson was leading in the second set.

Notre Dame hits the road again as they head to Tobacco Road and take on another pair of ACC opponents. On Friday, the Irish will play #26 North Carolina before playing #13 ranked Duke on Sunday.
