Hudd’s rejuvenation allowed him to capture the clutch gene in 2022, finishing the year second on the team with six match clinches. Four of those clinches a year ago were especially notable.
Using a third-set tiebreaker to pick up a ranked win at the No. 4 singles lineup position, Hudd clinched then-top-ranked Tennessee’s 4-3 home win over No. 10 Wake Forest on Jan. 25, 2022.
The following month, Hudd battled back for a third-set victory on court three over another ranked singles foe, clinching Tennessee’s 4-2 win over No. 13 South Carolina at the ITA National Indoor Championship In Seattle.
A day later, he was clinching again. This time, it was his straight-set, ranked win at the No. 3 spot to earn Tennessee a 4-2 triumph over third-ranked Baylor that sent the Vols to the championship match in Seattle.
Then, in SEC play, Tennessee roared back from a 3-0 deficit at No. 25 Texas A&M, eventually winning, 4-3, behind Hudd’s clinching fourth point on court two.
