CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Illinois men’s tennis Nic Meister, Mathis Debru and Kenta Miyoshi walked away with singles wins to close out the Knoxville Showdown hosted by Tennessee.
Miyoshi earned his first collegiate win with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Tennessee’s Gabriele Brancatelli.
Sophomore transfer Debru tallied his third win in the tournament after defeating the host school’s Boris Kozlov, 6-3, 7-6(4).
Meister fought his way to a win after battling through three sets against Tennessee’s Angel Diaz in a 7-5, 2-6, 7-6(6) outcome.
In doubles play, Meister and Miyoshi fell 6-1, with graduate student Oliver Okonkwo and Debru also falling 6-2.
