CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Illinois men’s tennis is set to compete in the ITA Midwest Regional Championships from Oct. 19-22 in Ann Arbor, Mich., hosted by the University of Michigan.
Ten Illini are set to compete in the main draw, with five doubles pairs also taking part.
The ITA Midwest Regionals is a qualifier for the ITA Fall National Championships in San Diego, Calif. Sophomore Kenta Miyoshi already qualified for Nationals by winning the Milwaukee Tennis Classic in September.
Last year, Hunter Heck reached the semifinals before falling to Michigan’s Gavin Young, 1-6, 6-2, 2-6. Two doubles teams made it to the quarterfinals before being knocked out – Mathis Debru and Oliver Okonkwo fell, 8-6, to Michigan’s Andrew Fenty and Young, while Heck and Lucas Horve lost to Northwestern’s Simen Bratholm and Ivan Yatsuk, 8-7(5).
