SALT LAKE CITY – The Husky men’s tennis team broke through on the road and picked up its first Pac-12 win of the season today with a 4-0 sweep of Utah at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center. The Huskies (7-10, 1-2 Pac-12) came through in multiple tiebreakers, one to clinch doubles and then three more in singles play to prevail.
It was the sixth-straight road match for the Dawgs and after losing the previous two against ranked opponents by 4-3 scores, the Huskies were ready to get back in the win column. Doubles gave them a lift, as Cesar Bouchelaghem and Dzianis Zharyn clinched the point with a 7-4 tiebreaker win at No. 1 over Utah’s Busleiman/Krenn. That followed a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles from Heman Nama and Ivan Sodan at the No. 3 spot over Applegate/Rossi.

Shifting to singles, the first sets could not have been much closer, as three went to tiebreaks, two were 6-4 and another was 7-5, but the Dawgs earned five of those six to keep momentum.
Nedim Suko and Dzianis Zharyn finished within moments of each other to build on the Husky lead. Suko finished off his third win in a row, beating Dylan Applegate, 7-6 (2), 6-3, at No. 4. Zharyn looked like he was headed for a third set, as he was down four set points in a second set tiebreak against Bruno Krenn. But Zharyn stormed back with six points in a row from 2-6 to 8-6 to win and make it 3-0 Dawgs.
Sodan earned his fourth singles win in the past five matches to clinch it, holding off Gianluca Citadini at No. 5 singles, 7-6 (2), 7-5.
Denis was down 2-6 in his second set tiebreak.

Washington finally returns to its home courts next week, continuing Pac-12 action against the L.A. schools. USC is up first on Friday, Apr. 5, at 3 p.m. at the Bill Quillian Stadium.
