SEATTLE – The 19th-ranked Husky women’s tennis team looks to get back in the win column this weekend as it stays on the road, visiting the Bay Area to face Stanford and Cal. Nothing would erase the taste of last week’s losses in the mountains faster than wins in Palo Alto or Berkeley. The first chance comes Friday, Apr. 14, against the 11th-ranked Cardinal at 1:30 p.m. One day later the Huskies will go against 30th-ranked Cal at 11:30 a.m.

The Huskies are now 15-5 on the season and 5-2 in conference after losing their first two matches in conference last week at Utah and Colorado. UW slipped just three spots in the national rankings to 19th, as the Huskies remain in great shape to play in the postseason, but could host first and second rounds with a top-16 seed.

Stanford is 15-2 and 7-0 in Pac-12 play. Washington will be aiming for history on Friday as the Dawgs have never defeated the Cardinal. Stanford has four ranked singles players: No. 14 Connie Ma, No. 28 Alexandra Yepifanova, No. 36 Angelica Blake, and No. 70 Alexis Blokhina. Blake and Blokhina are ranked 28th in doubles.

California is 9-7 overall on the year and tied with the Huskies at 5-2 in conference. Cal had a 4-3 loss at Utah and another 4-3 loss at USC, but rolled in its last three Pac-12 matches over ASU (6-1), Arizona (7-0), and Oregon (6-1). Jessica Alsola and Katja Wiersholm are the 9th-ranked doubles team nationally. Alsola is also No. 48 nationally in singles and has gone a perfect 14-0 in dual singles matches this season entering the weekend.
