SEATTLE — The Intercollegiate Tennis Association made the annual midseason switch from national rankings based on votes, to computer rankings determined by a set formula this week, expanding the team rankings out to a top-75. The Husky men’s team checked in at No. 48 for its first ranking of the season, while sophomore Dzianis Zharyn earned the first singles ranking of his career, at No. 120.

Zharyn (Gomel, Belarus) has played every match at No. 2 singles for the Huskies, going 7-1 at that spot, to break into the national rankings, which are capped at 125 players. He achieved that despite only playing one match in the fall season.

Washington has gone 6-3 and last week had its best win thus far, at least based on the rankings, in a 4-3 road win over Oregon. The Ducks are ranked right behind UW at No. 50. The Huskies also have a win over No. 58 Louisiana. All three of UW’s losses have come to teams now ranked in the top-40 (No. 37 Notre Dame, No. 31 Arkansas, and No. 30 Oklahoma State).

The Huskies will be back at home this weekend to host Santa Clara on Friday and then No. 3 Michigan on Sunday, Feb. 26.
