Huskers Travel to UCSD – University of Nebraska

With its best program start since 2018, the Nebraska men’s tennis team (8-4, 0-0 Big Ten) is headed to California to take on UCSD, Yale and UCSB this week. The No. 56 Huskers will face UCSD (3-11, 0-0 Big West) first, with the match set to start at 5:30 p.m. (CT) on Saturday, March 9.

Scouting UCSD (3-11, 0-0 Big West)/Series History:
– The Tritons have gone 3-11 to start the 2023-24 season, with their most recent loss to Cal Berkley.
– UCSD ended last season 8-19, and was unranked.
– At this point in the season, there are no Tritons currently ranked by ITA.
– Head Coach Timmer Willing is in his 12th season in the role at UCSD and his 23rd with the program.
– The Tritons made the move up to Division I for the 2020-21 season.
Series History: 0-0; this is the first meeting between NU and UCSD.

Nebraska was recently ranked by ITA, at No. 56 with its 8-4 record. Junior Anton Shepp was also ranked by ITA, at No. 120 with his 12-4 record and upset win over Alabama’s then ranked No. 51 Enzo Aguiard. The Huskers started the spring season with two-straight Big Ten honors. Shepp was named Big Ten Player of the Week on Jan. 17 and Calvin Mueller on Jan. 24. Both Shepp and Mueller were recognized for their perfect 4-0 weeks and straight-set victories.

NU has a 8-4 record so far on the 2023-24 season, the best start for the team since 2018. The Big Red are coming off two home victories, defeating Texas Tech 4-1, and No. 56 Tulsa 5-2.
