Huskers Set for Big Ten Tournament


The Nebraska women’s tennis team is set for the 2022 postseason as it travels to Iowa City, Iowa, for the Big Ten Tournament. The Huskers will face the winner of Rutgers/Purdue on Thursday at 12 p.m. CT at the University of Iowa’s Hawkeye Tennis & Recreation Complex.

All 14 teams will be competing in this year’s tournament, and live stats will be provided for Thursday’s match and the remainder of the tournament.

Huskers Earn No. 6 Seed

Following a stellar conference performance during the regular season with an 14-9 record, the Huskers have secured the No. 6 seed in the tournament. Entering the ITA rankings again is Kristina Novak at No. 122. Novak is 12-6 overall in singles play and 11-1 in doubles with partner Maja Makoric. The duo is on an 11-game winning streak since Jan. 29th, playing out of the No. 1 spot. 

The Matchup

Nebraska’s opponent will be determined Wednesday afternoon following a match between Rutgers and Purdue. Purdue won the previous matchup between the two teams, 4-1.

Scouting Rutgers

Rutgers were unable to record any conference wins this season, finishing 0-11 and 5-17 overall. Rutgers dropped three duals to Big Ten ranked teams, No. 35 Northwestern, No. 54 Minnesota, and No. 10 Ohio State. Nebraska defeated Rutgers 4-0 on April 9th, and the Huskers lead the all-time series 6-1. 

Scouting Purdue

Purdue is 11-12 overall and 3-8 in conference play. The Boilermakers are led by junior Csilla Fodor who is currently ranked No. 71 in the ITA singles rankings. Fodor is 16-4 on the season playing out of the No. 1 spot. On March 26th, NU topped Purdue 4-1 in West Lafayette, Ind. Purdue leads the all-time series between the teams, 6-5.

If the Huskers win Thursday afternoon, they will meet the No. 3 seed Northwestern for the second time this season on Friday at 12 p.m. CT.
