Huskers Drop Close Match Against Nittany Lions


University Park, PA. – The No. 65 Nebraska women’s tennis team (13-7, 2-5 Big Ten) was defeated by No. 59 Penn State (11-10, 3-4 Big Ten) 4-2 on Sunday morning at the Sarni Tennis Center.
 
Action began with doubles play. In the No. 3 position, Lucy Loy and Anfisa Danilchenko were bested by Penn State’s Alina Lebedeva and Ioana Gheorghita, 6-0. Ana Carmen Zamburek and Isabel Adrover Gallego battled on Court 2 and defeated Karly Friedland and Olivia Dorner, 7-5. The deciding match played out on Court 1. Raphaëlle Lacasse and Samantha Alicea clinched the overall doubles point and won their 11th match as a duo when they defeated Sofiya Chekhlystova and Carla Girbau, 6-3. 
 
The action continued with singles play. In the No. 3 position, Carmen Zamburek fell to Gheorghita, 6-4, 6-2. Danilchenko dropped the match on Court 4 against Penn State’s Girbau, 6-2, 6-3. Lacasse defeated Dorner on Court 5, 7-5, 6-3, tying up the overall score 2-2. In the No. 2 spot, Alicea was bested by Yvonne Zuffova, 6-4, 6-4. The Nittany Lions clinched the overall win on Court 1 when Adrover Gallego lost to Chekhlystova, 7-6 (3), 6-3. The match concluded with Jillian Roa leading on Court 6. 
 
Up next, the Huskers come back home to face Maryland at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center at noon CT.
