2024, apparently, is the year of swift recovery from knee surgery. Novak Djokovic made headlines at Wimbledon, where he rocked up and reached the final, commencing his run less than a month after having knee surgery to repair his right meniscus.
Today we learned that Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz, who injured his right knee during his third-round loss to Arthur Fils at Wimbledon, plans to play the Olympics after undergoing surgery on Monday July 15.
“I had a knee procedure this Monday, but I’m feeling better already and my team and I are dedicating extensive time each day to the rehab process,” Hubert posted on Instagram.
“It’s a dream for every athlete to represent their country at the Olympics, and I want to make sure I am fully fit and ready before making the final decision to step on court. The aim is not only to participate, but to win a medal for my country. I’ll keep you posted on my progress as we take it day by day.”
27-year-old Hurkacz, ranked No.7, is 34-14 on the year thus far with a title on the clay of Estoril.
He reached the round of 32 at the 2020 Tokyo games. This year he is also slated to play mixed doubles with World No.1 Iga Swiatek in Paris
Olympic tennis commences on 27 July in Paris.
