Hokies take first game of doubleheader against Davidson, 7-0


BLACKSBURG – Hokies men’s tennis (4-0, 0-0) continues its strong start with a 7-0 victory over Davidson (1-2, 1-0) Saturday afternoon.
 
The result gives Tech a 4-0 record to start the season. A win against St. Bonaventure later today would be the Hokies’ best start since the 2008 season. 
 
Doubles play started with a dominant performance from Ryan Fishback and Maxime St. Hilaire, taking down Maxwell Kachkarov and Juan Perez, 6-1. Matt Harper and Alberto Orso held a strong 5-3 lead on court two, but the clinch came from Alex Ix and Michael Shepheard on court three. They defeated Luca Lovrich and Jerry Wang, 6-3, to secure the doubles point for Tech. 
 
For the second match in a row, Michael Shepheard and Benjamin Pomeranets would be the first two to earn a singles point for the Hokies, winning 6-0, 6-3, and 6-1, 6-2, respectively. 
 
No. 72 Ryan Fishback would continue his strong start to 2024 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory against Udday Singh on court one. On court three, Hugo Maia had another strong showing, with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Sebastian Moran. 

Court five would see a battle between Alex Ix and Nico Pinzon, with Ix earning another win by scores of 7-5, 6-4. Court two would finish out the match, as Maxime St. Hilaire finished off a strong day for the Hokies with a 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7) victory over Juan Perez.
