BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech (8-12, 3-10 ACC) earns the No. 11 seed in the ACC Women’s Championship in Cary, N.C., setting up a match-up with 14th-seeded Louisville on Wednesday, April 17 at 3:30 p.m., per a league release.
The Hokies look to start fresh in the postseason after coming up short this weekend against Miami at home. Tech secured the doubles point as well as two singles wins for Semra Aksu and Laima Frosch but were unable to find a third singles win to take the match.
At the time of the bracket announcement, Virginia Tech sits at No. 71 nationally, according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Louisville sits unranked, having finished their season with a 4-18 (0-13 ACC) record.
The Cardinals have victories over Eastern Kentucky, Kennesaw State, Austin Peay, and Furman. Allie Gretkowski and Lika Peresypkina have posted an 8-11 record in doubles this season, including wins over Clemson and Xavier on Court 1. Germany Davis picked up two ranked wins this season in singles, over No. 44 Sophie Abrams of NC State and No. 114 Antonia Balzert of Miami.
Louisville fell to Duke in its final match of the season, 4-0 at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center in Louisville, Ky.
In Tech’s most recent match-up with Louisville, Dariya Radulova clinched the match with a three-set win over Germany Davis to give the Hokies a 4-3 win to start ACC play.
