Hokies claim a pair of wins on Sunday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BLACKSBURG — Virginia Tech came from behind to notch a 4-2 win against ETSU Sunday morning at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.

After dropping the doubles point, Tech found its form in singles with multiple straight set victories.

Semra Aksu got the comeback started on Court 4 cruising to a straight set win against ETSU’s Fernanda Carvajal, 6-4, 6-2.

The momentum started to build for the Hokies with Tamara Barad Itzhaki showing her prowess winning in a 6-4, 6-2 victory to tie the match. Tech then doubled its score when Özlem Uslu picked up a three set victory on Court 2, 6-3, 0-6, 6-4 over Mariya Shumeika.

On Court 6, Katie Andreini won a two-set match of her own after claiming the tiebreak 7-4 in the second set to clinch the match.

— MATCH TWO — 

BLACKSBURG — Virginia Tech earned their third win of the season by defeating Davidson, 7-0, on Sunday.

The Hokies came out strong in doubles making quick work of their Wildcat challengers. Semra Aksu and Tamara Barad Itzhaki shined in a dominant 6-0 win followed by Erika Cheng and Sabina Richtrova recording a 6-1 victory on Court 1.

Five of the six singles wins for Tech came in straight sets. Barad Itzhaki continued her stellar Sunday with a 7-5, 6-0 win to get the Hokies on the board. Freshman Özlem Uslu continued the trend with a straight set win of her own, 6-0, 6-4. 

Semra Aksu cruised to 3-0 on the season with a 7-5, 6-0 on Court 4. It was more of the same on Court 5 with Erika Cheng winning, 6-3, 6-1. Katie Andreini showed great poise at the end of sets with a 7-5, 7-5 victory to put the Hokies in position to sweep.

All eyes were on Court 1 in the most entertaining match of the day. Josie Schaffer gave Dariya Radulova everything she could handle with each set being decided in a tiebreak. Down 3-1 in the final set, Radulova rallied back to pull out the victory, 7⁹-6⁷, 6⁵-7⁷, 1¹⁰-0⁸.

UP NEXT

The Hokies will remain in Blacksburg when they host both Richmond and Radford on Saturday at 10 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., respectively.
