Head Coach Adam Steinberg Retains Associate Head Coach Mat Cloer

Cloer helped the Gators earn 14 victories last season and coached two players to ITA All-American honors.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Mat Cloer, associate head coach of the Gators during the 2022-23 season, will be retained in the same role for the upcoming year, head coach Adam Steinberg announced on Saturday.

“I’m thrilled to have Mat continuing in his role as the associate head coach of the Gators program,” said Steinberg. “His experience playing and coaching tennis is among the best in the country. Excited for the opportunity to compete alongside Mat and have him continue his development with our players.”

“Excited and grateful for the opportunity to continue to help lead the program along side Coach Steinberg,” said Cloer. “We have a talented group of young student-athletes and I truly believe we will achieve great things together.”

Last season (2022-23) was Cloer’s first as Florida’s associate head coach and 10th year coaching on the collegiate level. Cloer came to Gainesville after serving as a USTA Player Development National Coach, where he worked primarily with one of the top American players in Mackenzie McDonald, who is currently 67th in the Pepperstone ATP Rankings.

In his first season with the Orange & Blue, Cloer helped the Gators win 14 matches including six over top-35 opponents. Cloer coached Will Grant and Axel Nefve to both ITA All-American and All-SEC honors, as well as Jonah Braswell to All-SEC and SEC All-Freshman Team.
