Gleason Garners Big Ten Athlete of the Week of the Honor

Lincoln, Neb.  William Gleason was named Big Ten Athlete of the Week as the conference announced the award on Wednesday afternoon. Gleason follows in the steps of Shunya Maruyama, who won the award last week.

The Lincoln, Neb., native went 8-1 this week, which included a strong performance against Ball State when he picked up a 6-3 doubles win over the duo of Vince Orlando and Nathaniel Webster and a 6-1, 6-2, singles win against Sajin Smith.

Gleason, partnered with Mueller, had an impressive showing at the Pacific Coast Doubles Championship in La Jolla, Calif. The duo finished as the runners-up and posted a 6-1 tournament record.

This is the first time the graduate student and Lincoln Southwest alumni has won the award.

Gleason looks to continue his impressive play as the Huskers host Omaha on Saturday at 10 a.m. CT at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center.
