TULSA, Okla. – Jonah Braswell and Axel Nefve both won their first round matches to begin the singles main draw, while Tanapatt Nirundorn and Togan Tokac were triumphant in the first round of the doubles main draw at the ITA All-American Championships on Wednesday at the Case Tennis Center on the University of Tulsa campus.
Braswell extended his win streak to eight victories in a span of four days by defeating No. 50 Trey Hilderbrand from Texas A&M. The freshman converted on two break point opportunities in the first set to win 6-3. The Sarasota, Fla. native had to battle for the second frame, but Braswell conquered the tiebreaker winning 7-6 (3) to claim the match.
Braswell follows with a matchup against No. 7 ranked Chris Rodesch from Virginia in the round of 32.
No. 34 ranked Nefve demonstrated tremendous composure in his first match of singles competition in Tulsa as he took on Texas A&M’s No. 19 Noah Schacter. The Delray Beach, Fla. native made quick work of Schacter, 6-4, 6-3, and converted on five break point opportunities in the match.
Nefve squares up with Ohio State’s Alexander Bernard in the round of 32.
The Gators pair of Nirundorn and Tokac faced Louisville’s No. 48 ranked duo of Natan Rodrigues and Fabien Salle carried their momentum from qualifying with a 6-3 first set. The Cardinals’ combo retaliated in the second set 6-3, but Nirundorn and Tokac rallied in the final tiebreaker to complete the tight victory, 10-8.
Nirundorn and Tokac will next face TCU’s No. 3 ranked Sander Jong and Lui Maxted in the round of 16.
