Florida’s matchup against the Illini will be the 24th meeting between the two programs with the Gators leading the series 12-11.

The Florida Gators hit the road this weekend to compete in the Fighting Illini Invitational in Delray Beach, Florida. Florida’s matchup against the Illini will be the 24th meeting between the two programs with the Gators leading the series 12-11.
 
New Gators head coach Adam Steinberg looks to start the spring 2024 season off strong against a team with which he has a long history. Facing off against the Illini 12 times while the head coach at Michigan, Steinberg led Michigan to a record of 4-8 over nine seasons, but finishing that stretch with a three-match win streak. Steinberg looks to continue this winning trend with his new squad to kick off his inaugural spring season at the helm for the Gators.
 
This weekend marks the career debuts for four new Gators: Mattia Akcan, Kevin Edengren, Adhithya Ganesan and Henry Jefferson. These early signees look to make an impact from the start, joining what has become one of Florida’s youngest teams in recent memory.
 
Coming off a 14-14 season and a first-round exit in the 2023 NCAA Tournament, Florida is ranked as the 23rd best team in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The Illini are coming off a 19-11 record in which they made it to the NCAA Tournament and lost in the first round to Arizona State.
 
The Gators’ home schedule begins with a double header against The Citadel (11AM) and North Florida (4PM) on January 19th at Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex.
