Gators Fall Short in Day Two Battle with No. 16 Tarheels

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida Gators Men’s Tennis faltered in their consolation match with no. 16 North Carolina by a score of 4-2 on day two of ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
 
The Gators opened with strong performances in doubles, highlighted by Freshman Adhithya Ganesan and Sophomore Tanapatt Nirundorn winning their court two matchup, 6-3. Captains Nate Bonetto and JanMagnus Johnson led early in their set but ultimately fell to UNC’s Murphy/Schoen tandem, 7-5.
 
Bonetto quickly recovered to collect the first singles point for the Gators on court four, defeating UNC’s Patrick Schoen 6-1, 7-5.
 
Ganesan Followed with a straight-sets victory of his own, his fifth straight sets singles win in five dual matches this season. The Gator’s court three regular, Ganesan is the only gator to compete in all five of the Gators dual match singles rounds and remain undefeated.
 
The Gators now look ahead to College Matchday against rival Florida State on February 3 at USTA’s national campus in Lake Nona, Florida. Cracked Racquets will be providing College Matchday coverage.
