Gators Continue Fall Slate at Miami


The Gators will be joined by Barry, Kentucky, Miami and Northwestern.

 

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Florida women’s tennis is set to continue fall action this weekend when they head to Coral Gables, Fla., for the Miami Fall Invitational from Nov. 4-6.
 
The Gators will be joined by Barry, Kentucky, Miami and Northwestern in a round-robin style competition. Friday’s competition will begin at 9 a.m. ET with UF taking on Northwestern in singles, followed by doubles contests against Miami at 11:30 a.m.
 

On Saturday, the Orange & Blue will begin with doubles against Northwestern at 11:30 a.m. followed by a Southeastern Conference battle with Kentucky in singles at 1 p.m., in addition to three matches against Barry.
 
The invitational will conclude for the Gators on Sunday at 12 p.m. with singles matches against the host, Miami. All nine athletes will make the trip for Florida.
 
LAST TIME OUT
At the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Southeast Regional, Carly Briggs and Alicia Dudeney earned an impressive runner-up finish in the main draw of doubles competition. The pair earned four victories during the tournament, falling only to the top doubles team in the nation of Georgia Tech’s Carol Lee and Kate Sharabura.
 

As a team the Orange & Blue ended the tournament with 17 overall victories, featuring a consolation singles title from Emily De Oliveira who claimed the title after defeating Georgia Tech’s Alejandra Cruz: 4-6, 6-2, 10-8. For the weekend, the sophomore tallied five of the Gators’ wins.
 
PRESEASON ITA RANKINGS
A pair of Gators find themselves ranked in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association preseason rankings that was revealed on Sept. 6. In singles competition, Alicia Dudeney entered the rankings tied for 119th while Dudeney and freshman Rachel Gailis are ranked 50th in doubles.
