Gamecocks Picked to Win SEC Title – University of South Carolina Athletics

Birmingham, Ala. –  The Southeastern Conference announced the men’s tennis coaches’ preseason poll on Thursday with South Carolina picked to finished atop the league, a first for the Gamecocks.

South Carolina will begin its season as the No. 5 team in the ITA Division I rankings after returning six members of the squad who reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championships last season.

The preseason poll is voted on by the men’s tennis head coach at each SEC institution and is based on a 13-12-11-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 vote.

In first place with 164 votes is South Carolina followed by Tennessee (156), Mississippi State (128), and Kentucky (125). The complete results of the poll are listed below.

No. 5 South Carolina will begin its dual season on Sun., Jan. 21, with a road match at No. 1 Virginia. The SEC season will begin on March 1st in Columbia when the Gamecocks take on LSU.
