Friend Named Pac-12 Player of the Week


TUCSON – Jay Friend has been named Pac-12 Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.

“Really proud of Jay for his week starting 4-0 in our first two matches,” Associated Head Coach Alex Friend said. “This is a continuation of the tremendous fall that he has had. This award is a really nice recognition of the hard work he has put in and I look forward to seeing his continue progress throughout the season”

Thirty-fourth-ranked Friend went undefeated in Arizona’s matches against UC San Diego on Sunday, defeating both of his doubles opponents by a score of 6-3 alongside Colton Smith. The duo is ranked 11th nationally in doubles.

Friend additionally won both of his singles matches, defeating Diogo Tinoco 6-2, 6-0 in the morning match before taking down Philip Lan 6-2, 6-1 in the afternoon match.
