Four Huskies Win Openers At Regionals

SEATTLE – All four Huskies in action today picked up a win in their first match of the fall season, while three advanced to the round of 16 at ITA Northwest Regionals, which UW is hosting at the Nordstrom Tennis Center. Senior Jim Hendrikx, junior Nedim Suko, and Sophomore Brett Pearson are all into Saturday’s round of 16.

 

Individuals are looking to advance to the ITA Super Regionals, which will take place at Stanford in two weeks. All-Pac-12 Huskies Cesar Bouchelaghem, Dzianis Zharyn, and Han-Chih Lin are auto-qualified for Supers, but their teammates are looking to join them.

 

Also getting a round one win today was Heman Nama, a transfer from Kentucky. Nama won his UW debut, 6-0, 4-6, 6-2, over Michael Frank of Seattle U. Nama fell in his second round match in another three setter

 

Hendrikx, Suko, and Pearson all had byes into the round of 32, then won once to progress. Saturday will start at 9 a.m. with the singles round of 16, before continuing with two rounds of doubles. The tourney wraps Sunday with four singles players, and two doubles teams earning spots at Supers.
