Florida Wraps Bedford Cup Action


GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The men’s tennis team wrapped up play at the Bedford Cup on Sunday afternoon.

Mattia Akcan moved into the consolation bracket following his loss on Friday. Akcan met Benjamin Scott (UNF) on Saturday in the Consolation Qualifying Round of 16. Akcan secured to a 6-1, 6-4 victory against Scott to solidify his spot in the Consolation Quarterfinals.

Akcan defeated Maximo Oberto (Miami) in a 6-2, 6-3 straight set effort and advanced to the Consolation Semifinals where he fell to Jean Deloziere (UNF) 6-0, 7-5.

Tanapatt Nirundorn faced Andreas Scott (UNF) in the Quarterfinals on Saturday but fell 7-5, 6-4.

On the doubles side, pair Cordova/Akcan competed in the consolation bracket and defeated to Olivier Lucas/ Kartik Mandla in a 6-4 effort. The duo moved to the Consolation Semifinals where they faced Justin Lyons/ Azariah Rusher (FSU). The duo battled, but Lyons/Rusher outlasted them 7-5.

The Gators will have a week of no competition, but will return to action in Tallahassee for ITA Sectionals Nov. 7-10.
