Florida Women’s Tennis Releases 2022-23 Schedule

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida women’s tennis head coach Roland Thornqvist announced the Gators’ 2022-23 schedule on Wednesday morning, a challenging slate that brings eight opponents to the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex in the spring.

During the spring portion of the season, the Gators will battle 11 teams that qualified for the 2022 NCAA Tournament with the potential to add more depending on how the ITA Kickoff Weekend in College Station, Texas, plays out. Of its 17 finalized dual match contests, 15 opponents finished in the top 75 of the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association Rankings in 2022.

Following a fall portion of the schedule that will see the Gators exclusively on the road, the Orange & Blue will host eight matches at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex during dual match competition. Pepperdine and Michigan, who finished last season ranked eighth and 18th, respectively, will highlight UF’s non-conference tilt while Texas A&M (seventh), Vanderbilt (26th) and Arkansas (34th) are featured as notable Southeastern Conference foes visiting Gainesville.

Florida will stay in-state for one of their road non-conference matches, heading to Tampa, Fla., to meet South Florida before a road trip to College Station where they will open ITA Kickoff Weekend against Arizona. The winner will meet the winner of Texas A&M and Florida Atlantic.

The Gators will stay in Texas following Kickoff Weekend, facing off with Baylor on Sunday, Feb. 5.

Fall tennis begins on Monday, Sept. 19-25 with the Lubbock 15K in Lubbock, Texas while the Bedford Cup, hosted by Florida Gulf Coast this season, will follow from Jan. 23-25 with another Florida contingent.

Following the Bedford Cup, the Gators will focus on ITA action with the ITA All-American Championships running from Oct. 1-9, followed by the Florence 25K from Oct. 10-16. A contingent of UF athletes will also represent the Orange & Blue at ITA Regionals in Atlanta, Ga., from Oct. 13-18.

The ITA National Fall Championships will be held from Nov. 2-6 in San Diego, Calif.

To end the fall season, the Gators will once again split-squad, sending some athletes to the Lincoln 15K from Nov. 7-13 while another group will close at the North Florida Invitational in Jacksonville from Nov. 11-13.

After the semester break, Florida will welcome 2023 with the Freeman Memorial, an annual tournament for the Gators in Las Vegas that will be held from Jan. 12-16.
