Florida to Matchup Against Wildcats Next


The Gators will face No. 64 Kentucky in Lexington to finish out the weekend road stretch. Florida will be coming off a 4-3 victory over Vanderbilt and the Wildcats most recently got shutout 4-0 by South Carolina.

LEXINGTON, Ky. — No. 13 Florida will stay on the road and head to No. 64 Kentucky for a Sunday afternoon matchup against the Wildcats. Doubles will go out at 1 p.m. with singles to follow.
 
The Gators travel to Lexington after a 4-3 win over Vanderbilt on Friday evening. Florida will look to extend its eight-match win streak before returning home to close out the regular season.
 
ABOUT KENTUCKY
Ahead of Sunday’s matchup, Kentucky is nationally ranked No. 64 through the ITA. The Wildcats are currently on a two-match losing streak after falling 4-0 to South Carolina on Friday and 4-3 to Arkansas last Sunday.

Kentucky has no ranked players in the singles categories, but has No. 44 doubles pair, Elizabeth Stevens and Makayla Mills. The duo holds a 12-8 record this year and has gone 4-4 in their last eight contests. Most recently, Mills and Stevens fell 6-1 to South Carolina’s Ayana Akli and Sarah Hamne.

LAST TIME OUT

Florida’s last match was against the No. 27 Commodores on Friday evening. The Gators defeated Vanderbilt 4-3 in a back and forth battle in Nashville. Florida was able to secure the doubles point early, with wins on both courts two and three. The Gators advantage heading into singles guided them to a team victory after several close singles contests.

 

Pulling out the victories for Florida was doubles pair Rachel Gailis and Bente Spee defeating Vanderbilt’s Sonya Macavei and Amy Stevens 6-1. Carly Briggs and Qavia Lopez followed with a 6-2 win over No. 69 Valeria Ray and Holly Staff.

Wins on the singles side started with Sara Dahlstrom defeating Valeria Ray 6-3, 6-2. Carly Briggs followed with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 win over Anessa Lee, and Qavia Lopez closed out for the Gators defeating Amy Stevens 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3.
