Craig entered the championships as a wild card selection and through the week he secured three top-100 wins and recorded his first top-25 victory. The Coconut Creek native had earned four wins in four days in competitive debut for the Seminoles.
Craig began brightly with an early 3-1 lead before winning the final three games to take the first set 6-2. Craig earned his first opening set victory of the tournament. The junior transfer remained cool and collected to finish the match with a 6-4 second set and clinched the automatic qualifier to the NCAA Individual Championships and advance to the quarterfinals.
After dropping the first set of the quarterfinals, Craig battled to a second set tiebreaker where ultimately San Diego’s Oliver Tarvet pulled away to win in straight sets.
The doubles pairing of Erik Schiessl and Joshua Dous-Karpenschif played against a top-10 opponent for the second consecutive day after defeating the seventh-ranked pairing in the nation. Georgia’s duo of Neils Ratiu and Freddy Blaydes earned a first set victory before winning the second set tiebreaker.
Craig will finish his tournament in the consolation quarterfinal match tomorrow. His match time and opponent will be announced soon.
