Florida State Hosts Virginia Tech and Virginia

TALLAHASSEE – The Florida State women’s tennis team has two ACC matches this weekend, hosting Virginia Tech on Friday and Virginia on Sunday.

The Seminoles are 9-6 on the season, which includes a 5-2 home record. Florida State enters this weekend’s matches 35th in the national team rankings.

Florida State is coming off a dominant performance last weekend, defeating both UAB and Alabama A&M 5-0 on Saturday.

Junior Ellie Schoppe is coming off a 4-0 weekend. Schoppe and freshman Kristyna Lavickova kicked off the weekend with a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles against UAB. Schoppe then won 6-1, 7-6 (8) at No. 3 singles.

Against Alabama A&M, Schoppe and Anna Arkadianou won 6-2 at No. 1 doubles and Schoppe went on to win 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Arkadianou is ranked 67th in the national singles rankings and 49th in the national doubles rankings with freshman Millie Bissett.

Lavickova secured three wins over the weekend, winning 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4 singles and 6-0 at No. 2 doubles with Bissett against Alabama A&M.

Senior Vic Allen is ranked 108th in the nation’s singles rankings. Allen and Arkadianou are ranked 79th in the national doubles rankings.

Virginia Tech is 10-6 on the season and is ranked 64th in the nation. Junior Katie Andreini leads the Hokies with 12 wins this season and has won her previous four matches.

Virginia comes into this weekend’s matchup with a 12-3 record and is ranked No. 9 in the nation. The Cavaliers are led by graduate student Julia Adams, who is ranked 43rd in the national singles rankings. Adams is one of four Virginia players ranked in the top-125 singles rankings.

Friday’s match against Virginia Tech begins at 4:30 p.m. and Sunday’s match against Virginia begins at noon. Admission to matches at the Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center is free. Live stats and video from both matches will be available on Seminoles.com.
